It is with the deepest satisfaction that the town council of Caprese announces the first edition of the International prize for the arts “Michelangelo”. We hope that the appreciation of the Institutions, of the public and of the reviews will be of support to the will of the local administration to achieve something high and long lasting, an essential condition in a territory with a strong international touristic inclination such as ours, and most of all a unique place in this world, gifted with the additional value represented by the very name of Michelangelo. The aim of the prize is to focus the international attention on Caprese and spread out the valence of poetry, of sculpture and of drawing – expressions peculiar to Michelangelo – as fundamental moments of arts, offering a qualified selection of the current artistic trends and awarding the emerging talents, with a particular attention to the young generations.

To inaugurate this event, that will more and more bound Caprese together with the name of its most famous citizen and with the great tradition of the Italian culture, we chose to award the poet and sculptor Mario da Corgeno this prize, as he had the ability to bring again to life in his art – through the language of a to-day’s man the spiritual lesson of Buonarroti.
